Good Parent ... Bad Parent

I think lately the thing that seems to get my blood boiling the most is bad parenting. But what is it exactly that defines what a BAD PARENT is?

Is it one that spanks his child for throwing tantrums, or puts his own needs before his child's and so on? Well to be the worse thing a parent can do is demotivate his child, and not help set up their future.

Many parents take their children's education and future for granted, often thinking that "we'll cross that bridge when we get to it"... But when the bridge eventually approaches, and University entry is granted, the funding is unavailable, because parents haven't made provision for it. Those parents are in fact BAD PARENTS. I mean there are counter arguments to this such as "whose responsible for tertiary education?", and "children become adults after 18 and should take care of university fees on their own"..... This list goes on and on.

To me, as one can see from reading this article, is parents should be responsible enough to secure their children's futures and set aside funding. Many parents out there waste money on outlandish 16th Birthday Parties and sneakers that cost almost as much as a car installment, but then claim to have no funds to send their children to and institute for further education and training. Where are the priorities gone to?

If you child becomes adult who is working a crappy 9-5 and struggling to make it without any further training.....BLAME IT ON BAD PARENTING.....

50 Shades...

I have just started reading the 50 Shades Triology. It starts of very boring to me, refering to the 50 Shades of Grey book. The thing that kept me reading however was my own curiosity to find out were the character " Anastasia Steele" ends up.

The book took a surprising twist when "Christian Gray" entered the picture. This man at the beginning of the book seemed almost perfect. Every womens dream man... Rich, Educated, refined... but predictable to some extent. When Ana meets Christian for the first time, everybody could see were the story was headed....

The twist came in when the relationship between Anastasia & Christian was made clear.... the NDA, the contract.... the room of pain/pleasure....
It was almost unbelievable.... how could such a perfect man, have such a dark side????

So after I has finished Grey, I moved onto Darker. Still reading. But right from the start as stated previously I can almost predict the end. However women all over the world still seem to be affected by the description of MR Grey. I for one think 50 Shades is over rated no offence to the Author, EL James.

Its not WHAT you know...

I work in the field of Human Resources. I get much joy from the ideology surrounded with working in such a field but unfortunately I have no joy in my current job. With not much experience and only an  undergraduate degree in Industrial Psychology, I feel that back in school we were not prepared or told that the working world would be so cruel.

In South Africa, there is such a high rate of unemployment. Skilled professionals are walking the streets while people with very little knowledge are running major departments in big corporate company's. I often hear this term when asking people why they are out of a job or looking. They respond "it's not WHAT you know in this country, but in fact WHO you know"

It's funny, we have all the skills needed to take South Africa from a 3rd world to a 1st world country but are not utilizing it properly.  In my opinion, for South Africa to move forward we need to achieve total equality across the board, which means reconstructing the laws that govern employment, and more especially employment equity.

Also, I think it's fair to say that we need to hire people of quality, who are able to develop a culture of teaching, learning and people development.... my Utopia.

Caster Semenya...

Caster Semenya, South Africa's star athlete has grabbed a lot of attention after the women's 800m final in the 2012 London Olympics...

Prior to 2012, Caster was surrounded by much controversy regarding her gender back in 2009 when she won her title the first time round at the age of 18.

Back to talking about the women's 800m, which many thought Caster could have won, but didn't. Listening to the radio on my way to work the morning after the final, I heard many Radio Dj's voice their opinions in why they thought Caster took home silver instead of gold...
One Dj went as far to say that she " threw the race away".

After spending most of  my day listening to these kinds of comments... I asked myself  "why would someone give an Olympic gold medal away"... This just brought me to think about 2009 incident... I mean if  my gender was questioned in front of the whole world for simply winning a medal, why would I want to participate in any event of that nature again... It's simply embarrassing.

Personally I feel that South Africans should get behind Caster just as they have backed Chad le Clos. Caster is an exceptional athlete and is a force to be reckoned with. Instead of questioning her performance and scrutinizing her every move, we should support her, especially after the almost career ending 2009 saga...

Sweet Treats

Its funny how things have changed.... Baking a few years ago was simple. You put the flour, eggs, milk etc together, mix and pop in the oven, only to add a final touch of butter cream as a topping.

These days we see people like Buddy from the popular reality TV show Cake Boss , reinventing what baking and cake decorating.

My mom has been a professional baker for the past 15 years and lately the request she has been receiving for cakes are beyond reason.  Over the years things like technology, ways of life etc have all evolved. Who would have thought something like a Birthday Cake could move like a robot (Making reference to the Transformer cake Buddy built) or the live size Nascar cake ( Displayed below)

It brings me to a point of wondering what next? What is going to evolve next in this already confusing, fast paced, changing world. I have to agree that artist like Buddy Valastro's cake deco is superb... However I am a big fan of simplicity...

Happy Birthday Madiba...

Nelson Mandela is truly an iconic man. He is a man that is recognised world wide for his fight against apartheid. Today being the 18th of July 2012, he celebrates his 94th birthday.

Madiba devoted his life fighting for equal rights and a democratic government. A dream which saw its realisation in the 1994 elections. However, how much has South Africa progressed since then?
When I look around me everyday I see violence on our streets, poverty and even worse, racial segregation. On the media South Africans see and hear the stories of corrupt politicians and leaders.Has the culture of fighting for a progressive movement now faded away? Is the culture of the rainbow nation been tarnished by people who only care for their own interest and gain. Did Nelson Mandela's fight for freedom and equality go in vain?

Food for thought ... As we celebrate Madiba's 94th Birthday..

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MADIBA... We pray your legacy continues...

The weight issue...

Ever since I was a teenager I always battled with my weight. At the age of 17 I weighed around 70 kg's. I went on to attend university, when i realised i had to find away to loose all the accumulated "blubber" I had put on over the years. Prior to this point in my life I had never seen my self as FAT.

I tried many diets & exercises. Most of which i failed at by the second week. Then I had discovered the beauty of a diet pill. It was made up mostly of natural stuff, and I didn't even have to change the way I ate to loose all that weight. I took it for about 3 months, and started dropping weight like nobody could believe. From a size 14 to 10 and eventually right down to the 8 that i currently wear.

Lately however I have started gaining a few kilo's again... I felt ugly, and mostly unhappy, because maintaining my figure was such a tiring job these past 2 years. The diet pills helped the last time, but this is something that i did not want to make a habit.  So I have decided to keep things simple and follow a very easy diet plan. Firstly I start my day with a cup of tea, then go on to a morning snack such as a fruit or an handful of almonds, at lunch ( around 12pm) I usually have another cup of tea with cracker biscuits and then around 3pm I have a low fat yogurt. For supper I avoid rice and breads, but have 2 minute noodles as a replacement.

I've followed this diet for a whole week and dropped 3kg's already. Although diet pills may aid weight loss, one has to work extremely hard to maintain a healthy lifestyle...
